What is millwork in construction and interior design?
Millwork is custom architectural woodwork fabricated in a shop and installed on site as part of an interior or architectural project. It typically includes doors, frames, trims, mouldings, wall panelling, shelving, and built-in cabinetry made to suit specific dimensions and detailing.
Unlike off-the-shelf components, millwork is drawn and produced for a particular job and coordinated with other trades and real site conditions. It is commonly used in residential, commercial, and hospitality interiors where accurate sizing, clean detailing, and finish consistency are important.
The scope of millwork can range from simple trim packages to complex, highly detailed architectural assemblies depending on materials, joinery, finishes, and installation constraints.
